Icon site on Kendall Street Gosford, November 2017 |
Site meeting going on to organise the next bit of work so they
don’t get in each other’s hair while they’re doing it. It must be tricky
working not only on a sloping site but also on one so small and in a narrow
side street too. The parking along there is atrocious and there are often
vehicles lining up to deliver new materials or take away spoil, parked hard up
against the curb on the site side of the road or perilously close to the sharp
drop down the hill on the other side. And then there are cars and ambulances
coming through to get to and from the hospital.
Pile driver at Icon site, November 2017 |
Meanwhile, the pile driver up the back was preparing the ground
for more stabilising pylons to keep the hill above (Presidents Hill) from
sliding down onto the site in the next big rain.
You can see a neat stack of re-bar pylon frames in the centre of
the photo above.

Red clay at the Icon site, November 2017 |
Look at that red clay there. That would slow work down, not as
much as the sandstone in the Wilhelmina Street site just a few blocks away, but
it would be a lot slower and harder to excavate than nice soft sand.
It will be interesting to see how fast this site moves now it’s
active. It’s come along pretty quickly since ground was broken just a couple of
short weeks ago.
