Where are the Local Listings?

Where are the Local Listings? They're on my new website Locally Owned Locally Made Gosford at lhttp://locallygosford.blogspot.com.au/.

Feedback made urgent the moving of the Local Listings to the new site, so they can flourish without having to be hunted down on this site.

Locally Owned Locally Made Gosford
will have live links to businesses websites and business phone numbers for tradespeople and others who don’t need websites. When I first go live, I’ll be putting up some live links and phone numbers for free until I have things sorted out and I’m ready to charge (standard) pay-per-click rates. Enjoy!

Are the listings really free?

Yes.

Your listing will look very much like one of these:

As you can see, your listing will include your business name and address and a summary of your business. I write a summary description of the business’s goods, services or other offerings, after I’ve asked you questions about what makes your stand out from the crowd.

Who I am & why I’m doing this

I’m a local who is both excited by and made slightly nervous by all these big new buildings going up in Gosford and I’m not alone in my ambivalence. But with population and house price pressures from Sydney, and the Australian population as a whole rising, it had to happen. And it’s good for business: the population goes up, the number of visitors to our beautiful Brisbane Water area goes up and a rising tide lifts all ships and their bottom lines.

This website is not a business. Later, I may or may not take paid advertising. If and when I do, this website will stick to its amateur tone because it’s driver will always be my personal, amateur interest in the changes.

My interests overlap your interests

If your business is locally owned, my interests overlap your interests. My interests are in tracking the physical changes to Gosford and the Greater Gosford/Brisbane Water area and, in time, the Wyong area and out into the hinterlands behind the Central Coast, and also in the changes to the local retail and other business scenes in the area. It all affects me and it all affects you, other locals, local business and visitors to the area too.

The local social, retail, wholesale, manufacturing and other business scenes are affected by population rises and visitor numbers. That’s why I’m doing the local listings pages and why I’m doing them in categories: I want to know what’s out there in each category, where they are and what makes them the same as and different to the other businesses in their category. Later, when the population has jumped up with all these new apartments, the local retail scene will change: there will be more pet shops, another winery or brewery, more freelancers working from home, more cleaners, more of most things and, I think, more differences from one business to another in the same category. So I’ll keep updating my lists, listing all the new ones businesses that spring up, and we can all watch the business scene grow and change too as Gosford and the Greater Gosford grows and changes.

What is a local business?

On this website, a local business is a business that’s locally owned. It can be a bricks and mortar shop, an online shop, a service business like a home and/or office cleaning service or a cafe or accommodation, a a business-to-public or business-to-business service, a wholesaler, a lone freelancer working from home, a tradie or sub-contractor, a mobile business such as a hairdresser or dog groomer or some other service, a small to medium business or even a big business as long as that business is locally owned.

Towns & suburbs covered

For the moment, the area I’m covering is Gosford itself plus what we locals call the Greater Gosford, which just means the suburbs, towns and villages in and around Gosford and around the beautiful Brisbane Water estuary. If your suburb or town has an old name, tell me what it is and what the new name is and I’ll use both. Include your answers to the questions below. Help me to help your bottom line.

Can you contact me or do you have to wait until I contact you?

I will list your business on my website when your category is ready to publish.

But you can make it easier for me to list your business and your category by sending me an email with clear and precise answers to the following questions:

Are you a locally-owned business? (You must answer this with “yes”, “no” or “partly”.)
What is your business name?
What is your business phone number? (I’ll contact you on various points.)
What is your exact address?
What is the nearest cross-street to your business?
What local landmark would help people find you?
Who started your business? You? You and your partner/friend? Someone in your family? If a family business, who started it and when?
What is your business type? Retail, bricks and mortar, online only, a bit of both, wholesale, import, export, goods, service, type of goods or services, business-to-public, business-to-business. If other name and describe that other.
What makes your business the same as others in your category? What do you supply that they too supply?
What makes your business different? What are the goods or services you offer that they don’t? Do you hold your own unique events? What are those events and when do you hold them? If you’re planning a new type of event, when might you hold it? (I will soon start publishing seasonal listings of things to do in the Gosford area. I will be including some business event dates in those listings.)

When will I list your business category?

When the list for your category is ready. You can help me get it ready by emailing me your answers to the questions above.

Unless your business is a knocking shop. I won’t be listing local knocking shops or sole traders in that line of business. I have nothing at all against the workers, I just don’t want to be known for listing that category on my website.

Will I list your local not-for-profit organisation?

Very likely. I want to cover the leisure and pleasure and other non-business parts of Gosford too and that includes non-profit organisations.

Upcoming categories

These are the categories I’m likely to publish lists of in August, September and October 2017. I might put one off until the following month and I’m likely to change the order in which they’re published. You’ll just have to grin and bear it. It’s free, after all.
