Why do you hardly see me and my camera these days? Because things are hotting up in Gosford in terms of active sites. So I have to do them in bunches and because there are more sites, there have to be more bunches. I'll get back to your site soon. Meanwhile, enjoy having a stickybeak at the photos of everyone else's site.

Faunce Street West

Whole of the Faunce Street West site, 16th April 2018

This site sat idle for a good 6 months, with just its big yellow crane and two old houses on it. Then quite suddenly last month, it was cleared and the earthmovers came in and started digging out the spoil. We can see here spoil removal is still underway.

Here we can see from the upper and lower rooftop heights of the units to the left that this is a site of middling steepness. It's looking quite sandy so far but we'll have to wait and see what's under that sand, whether it's clay or sandstone.

It's also another very tight site, with the spoil trucks having to stop on the road itself and even the scrap bins having to be stacked up in the front corner of the site, behind the mesh.

Local traffic waits patiently as spoil is dropped neatly into a waiting spoil truck and the clean-up crew moves the windblown bits off the road. The winds have been quite strong this past week so the clean-up crews must have been very busy and the wind must have caused some significant safety issues and all-round aggravation on Gosford's building sites.

The hill we can see in the background of all these photos is Presidents Hill, also marked on some maps as Waterview Park. There is a lookout at the top of Presidents Hill. Access is by car from the end of Hely Street in West Gosford. The view from up there is down the length of the Brisbane Water to Barrenjoey lighthouse, Palm Beach and Pittwater in northern Sydney. Best photography light is early mornings and late afternoons.

Beane Street East

Silent as the grave. This site, a mid-sized apartment building on the corner of Beane Street East and Hills Street, has been silent for a few weeks now.

As I stood there looking at it and wondering why, the people responsible for preventing workers from being fried by powerlines saw me and told me what was going on.

The striped yellow cover over this powerline ("tigertail")can't prevent it from electrifying anything or anyone it touches. It's just preventing the powerline from being damaged by making it more visible to trucks and cranes and so on.

Powerlines too close for safety, 16th April 2018

Here in this photo, we can see how close the powerlines are to the scaffolding on the Hills Street side of the site. That's too close. Close enough that a strong wind gust (which we've had plenty of) or a slight tilt too far of a piece of equipment or building material could come into contact with the powerlines and that would electrify the whole of the scaffolding and anything or anyone touching it. That's an ambulance job and probably one or two cases of body-bags so no wonder the site is closed down until it's sorted out.

Fielder Street

Fielder Street site is called 'Bayview', 7th April 2018

The Fielder Street site now has a name: 'Bayview'. There's a pub in Woy Woy, just 15 minutes down the road, by the same name that overlooks Woy Woy Bay. In the case of this site, the bay that will be viewed will be quiet little Fagans Bay.

(Fagans Bay is often confused with the similar-sounding Phegans Bay which is down at the Woy Woy end of Brisbane Water.)

Neat stacks of building materials and other stuff neatly stacked up ready on the other third of the site.

Fielder Street, like Hargraves and Kendall Streets, Lynn Avenue and Beane Street East, is not wide street. It's just one lane, in fact, and that's not ideal for deliveries of materials or for those big articulated trucks that take the spoil away. Happily, there's a derelict site immediately opposite that the trucks can use to turn and back up on. The workers on the other narrow streets would be very envious.

In the background, Fagans Bay on the left and the light industrial part of West Gosford on the right, at the bottom of Kariong Ridge. This building, and 'Harbour View' in Wilhelmina Street, will have views of the trees on Kariong Ridge as well as views down into little Fagans Bay and down the length of Brisbane Water. The lighthouse on Barrenjoey Head, in the mouth of Broken Bay, flashes at night and should be visible from many of the upper apartments in both buildings.

From top to bottom & left to right:

Racecourse Rd - small crane, 'Golf Heights' apartments, just back from the road behind some small trees.

Tiny houses - NO crane, site included on the map because it's so unusual and so tiny in comparison to every other build in and around Gosford.

Range Rd - small crane, an awkward house site on a steep hillside, off Henry Parry Drive North Gosford and around the corner from Ormond Street.

Ormond Street - biggish yellow crane, low-rise units on another fairly tricky site just off Henry Parry Drive.

Beane St West (2 dots) - big crane, a large steep site between the hospital on Holden Street and Showground Road along the railway line, this site is the largest in and around Gosford, is still undergoing foundation work and is an expansion of the hospital and will have various clinics, teaching facilities and parking.

Beane St East, on the corner of Hills Street - medium-sized grey crane, steep-ish site, low/medium rise apartments, like Kendall Street and Lynn Avenue, a tricky site to work on due to access issues.

Faunce St West, Gosford, this big yellow crane sat idle for months but now the two old houses on the site (opposite Cape Street North) have been demolished so this sloping site's foundations should be finished in a few months.

Hargraves St - small crane tucked away in the front left corner of the site, this street runs off Kendall Street near Ward Street, the site is the steepest I've seen so far, the foundation work is obviously heavy-going but seems to be about halfway through now.

Bately St - big red, white and blue crane, on the corner of Donnison Street in West Gosford, a 7 or 8 storey apartment tower right on the peak of a hill so its top floor will effectively be about 25 storeys above Mann Street.

Wilhelmina St - big yellow crane, West Gosford, 'Harbour View' apartment tower, so far the biggest hole that's had to be dug down into the sandstone but now going along at a good pace since the foundations were poured, barely 50 metres from Bately Street site.

Donnison St West - biggish yellow crane, near the corner of St George Street and about 200 metres from Wilhelmina St, a smallish apartment block, also going along at a fair clip now its big hole down into the sandstone has been dug and its foundations laid. This site's sandstone hole was about the same size at the one at Lynn Avenue.

Kendall St (2 dots) - big yellow crane on 'Icon' site and another big yellow crane on 'Vue' site, both apartment towers, both going ahead at a good pace but 'Icon' (upper site) is very difficult to photograph well now, due to the narrowness of the street and the fact that the opposite side of the road is a dangerously steep slope covered in trees and a tangle of undergrowth.

'Bonython Tower' AKA Singo's tower - biggest and first crane in Gosf's current building boom, yellow and visible from most parts of Gosford and even from the Woy Woy end of Brisbane Water Drive, the site is on Mann Street (main street) right next to Gosford's only shopping centre, the Imperial Centre, a neat quick site going along at a cracking pace.

'32 Mann St' - big yellow crane, Mann Street Gosford, just near the corner with Georgiana Terrace and, from its website, for "commercial building with a mixed use ground floor...retail uses [and]...Department of Finance, Services and Innovation", moving along at a fair clip.

Lynn Avenue - medium-sized yellow crane, site is in Point Frederick just behind the yacht club and is to be a medium-sized apartment tower overlooking the Gosford Broadwater, despite the narrowness of its street this site going along at a good pace now the big hole has been dug down into the sandstone and the foundations laid.

32 Mann Street South

32 Mann Street, near corner of Georgiana Terrace, 24th March 2018

This is a government building site, on the grounds of the demolished 1940's primary school. A snippet about it from its website:

"a mid-rise commercial building with a mixed use ground floor that supports retail uses [and] will accommodate 300+ positions from the Department of Finance, Services and Innovation (DFSI). It delivers on the Government’s 2015 election commitment and forms part of the Government’s Decade of Decentralisation Policy." (properties.nsw.gov.au/our-projects)

These 2 vertical structures look to me like the lift shaft (left) and the fire stairs. Am I right, gentlemen?

In the background on the right, we can see the 1950's house to the right of this site. When it was built, the 2-storey yacht clubhouse would not have been there and the house may have had the sort of view down the length of the Brisbane Water the upper half of this building will have. The bottom half will have the advantage of being a mere 30 seconds walk from the yacht club and the Gosford foreshore and a mere 10 minutes walk from Mann Street's shops and eateries.
